The Masters 2008 Final Round
The final round of The Masters is upon us. Who could have predicted 5 days ago that Trevor Immelman would be in the drivers seat going into the final round? If you listen to the pundits on The Golf Channel he is already being proclaimed the next Ben Hogan. He still has a long way to go before you can put him in the same league as The Hawk. But, you have to be impressed with Immelman's play. He has 3 rounds in the 60's and seems to have nerves of steel to go with that sweet swing that hits solid shots time after time.
But, it is Sunday now. Time to put up or shut up and close the deal. I think he can do it, but if Tiger, (who is playing 2 groups ahead of Immelman) can get some early birdies who knows what can happen?
Today will be windy too. Does that alone play into Tigers hands? I think yes and no. Tiger has a knack of performing under the toughest of conditions. But if Immelman is as Hoganesque as suggested, the wind should not be as big a factor for him as others.
Tiger is 6 shots back and he is still in this? Yep, because those in front of him are unproven in majors. Tiger has been saying all week he had to be patient. I think Tiger has been patient with the course, and for his swing to find the groove that it found yesterday. But, Tiger needs to read his putts a bit better today because chances are he will need to shoot at least a 66 to win his 5th jacket.
Golf's ultimate pressure cooker will be on display today. I can't wait to watch every minute of it.
